When Andy Allen embarked on his campaign journey for Commissioner of Chattooga County, he was steadfast in his decision to self-finance it entirely. However, as the campaign gathered momentum, Allen was deeply moved by the outpouring of support from individuals wanting to contribute. Initially declining these offers, he soon recognized the significance of acknowledging their generosity and sought a meaningful solution.
Through the collaborative efforts of Chattooga High School and Lisa Owings, Andy Allen proudly announces the establishment of the Jeff Owings Memorial Scholarship.
Jeff Owings passed away on January 26, 2024. He retired from Chattooga High School after 30 years of service as a Welding Instructor.
This scholarship, to be awarded for the first time on May 14, by Allen and Lisa Owings is a tribute to Jeff Owings’ memory. Jeff was a pivotal figure in Allen’s life during his formative years and a beacon of inspiration for many students. He was a profound mentor and supporter of Andy Allen and each of his students.
Allen expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to create this scholarship, emphasizing Jeff Owings’ enduring legacy in the field he passionately taught. The scholarship honors Owings’ dedication to education and his impact on countless lives.
Individuals can donate to the Jeff Owings Memorial Scholarship Fund at any United Community Bank location. Inform the bank employees that you wish to donate to the JEFF OWINGS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND, and they will facilitate the transaction.
