Friday, October 11 was recreation night and middle school band night at the CHS vs Christian Heritage game. Students from Lyerly, Menlo and Summerville Middle School band classes joined the Marching Indians to see what being a member of the CHS Band is like. Students were able to march onto the football field and stand with the high school students for the pre-game performance, play stand tunes, and set on the sidelines and watch the Marching Indians perform their halftime show. Band seniors have also had fun conducting their own bandmates which has been a tradition for 11 years.
Saturday, October 12 the Chattooga Marching Indian Band travelled to Daleville, Alabama to perform in their last competition of the 2024 season at the Daleville Band Invitational.
This was an overnight trip for the band, with a lunch stop in LaGrange, Ga., before arriving at Daleville Middle School. At the evening awards ceremony, the Marching Indians earned superiors in all categories. The band, drum line, drum major and color guard each earned the highest marks in their respective categories this year. Also, a first for the drum line wastheir participation in the drum line battle sponsored by Daleville High School.
Sunday morning, Oct. 13, the band travelled to Alabama Safari Park located in Hope Hull, Alabamaand boarded four wagons to tour the park, see, pet and feed the wildlife such as bison, llamas, alpacas, emu and other various animals. This was a real treat for band students, many of whom have never been outside of Chattooga County.
Competition season has come to an end for the band but, football season has not, as students will continue afterschool practices for their halftime show as the Journey slowly winds down for 2024.
This is a bye week for the Chattooga Indians. The next football game and halftime performance for the Indian band will be October 25 at Dade County High School. If you have not yet seen the Marching Indians perform in halftime, your chances are winding down. Bundle up, take a trip to Dade County and see the award winning CHS band in halftime action.
