Trion’s Mayor Clarifies Tornado Siren System Operation Amid Recent Storms

“Neither the Mayor nor anyone working with the Town of Trion is responsible for setting off the alarm,” Thomas explained.

AllOnGeorgia contacted Trion’s Mayor, Lanny Thomas, for further clarification on the siren system.

“With the recent storms and tornado warnings, several people have contacted me asking how the siren system works and who decides to set off the alarms. Neither the Mayor nor anyone working with the Town of Trion is responsible for setting off the alarm,” Thomas explained.

“The tornado siren works in a polygon format sent out from the National Weather Service, Peachtree City, Atlanta, GA. If the system were down and the polygons could not be defined, 911 would be alerted, and they would manually set off all sirens throughout the county,” Thomas said.

“I hope this clarifies how the alarm system in Trion operates. It’s our hope that we will be hearing less of it. However, if you do hear the siren, it’s crucial that you find safe shelter immediately.”
