The Summerville Police Department now has body cameras deployed on all patrol officers. Acting Police Chief, Harold Tucker, confirmed at the City Council Meeting, July 11th, that 2-3 officers work each shift and all are fitted with body cameras for their own safety and that of the public. Tucker commented on the general low crime in the Summerville area in spite of a string of recent robberies at local convenience stores. For the month of June the Summerville Police Department patrolled 6,785 miles and responded to 762 calls.
Tucker and Chief Stan Mosley have spent years increasing the interaction between the police department and the community to foster a bond that allows our police to prevent and solve crimes while garnering the respect and trust of Summerville residents.
The body cameras are one more step in the direction of using modern technology to offer the best opportunity for law enforcement to serve and protect the city of Summerville.
