The Joy of the Journey
No Vision, No Future
As the journey into the New Year approaches, many of us take time to reflect on the past and set intentions for the future. It’s a natural opportunity for renewal, making it vital to consider the vision driving our lives. The truth is, if there is no vision, there is no future. This holds profound truth, especially for those of us walking with Christ. Without a clear vision rooted in God’s purpose, we risk wandering aimlessly rather than thriving in the abundant life God promises.
The Bible tells us about the importance of vision. In Proverbs 29:18, we read, “Where there is no prophetic vision, the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.” This verse captures the essence of vision; without it, people lack direction and purpose. Just like a ship without a captain, people, communities, businesses, and especially churches can drift into stagnation, unable to fulfill their divine calling. The New Year offers a chance to reflect on and rekindle our vision, ensuring that we are not merely marking time but actively working toward a God given purpose.
As we seek God and ask Him to help us walk into the New Year with clarity, we must first seek God’s vision for our lives. The Apostle James reminds us in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” Seeking divine wisdom is essential as we set our personal goals and move toward carrying out Jesus’s mission in this world. God’s vision often contrasts with our limited human perspective, challenging us to think bigger and broader than we might have otherwise envisioned.
We must ask God to help us walk into this new year with open eyes! It’s essential to confront the changes and challenges that lie ahead. In Isaiah 43:19, God declares, “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” This powerful reminder encourages us to embrace the newness that God introduces. However, it requires us to look with open eyes,be aware of our surroundings, and be attuned to God’s workings in our lives.
Often, the future feels uncertain and overwhelming, especially during social, political, and personal upheaval. Yet, God promises that even in the wilderness, He is at work. By developing a vision rooted in faith rather than fear, we equip ourselves to navigate the future with confidence.
As individuals, our visions are essential, but so too is the vision that unites our communities and churches. In Habakkuk 2:2, weread, “And the Lord answered me: ‘Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.’” This call emphasizes the necessity of clarity and communication. A shared vision can inspire fellowship and collaboration, igniting collective action toward the common good.
In this New Year, let us come together to articulate our vision as a Church. What are the needs in our community? How can we serve our neighbors and glorify God? By working together towards a unified purpose, we can put our time, talents, and resources to work in ways that create lasting impact.
Lastly, as we strive to fulfill our vision, it’s essential to embody our faith in community and accountability. Hebrews 10:24-25 urges us: “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.” This exhortation reminds us of the importance of fellowship; we are not meant to walk this journey alone. By gathering regularly, sharing our struggles and victories, and uplifting one another, we cultivate an environment of encouragement that helps us remain steadfast in our commitment to our collective vision. Embracing this supportive community will fuel our passion for service, allowing us to venture boldly into the future with renewed purpose.
