Kevin Godfrey steps up to help the community again

In the wake of COVID-19, Angela Hutchins, the director of the Chattooga Resource Center (CRC), has been tirelessly ensuring the continuity of food rescue operations from Walmart in Lafayette and Trion. Almost every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Angela drives the truck and trailer to collect loads of rescued food—a vital lifeline for the community.

However, a recent setback occurred when Angela’s truck broke down on a crucial Monday, leaving the Center needing a means to transport the much-needed supplies. Angela took to social media, asking for help from the community.

Kevin Godfrey of Godfrey’s Tree Service stepped up to the plate. On Friday, he dispatched his crew to pick up the trailer, followed by trips to Lafayette and Summerville Walmarts to gather several hundred pounds of food. The team then unloaded the supplies at the food bank, ensuring they reached those in need.

Angela emphasizes the role of Walmart donations: “We cannot do what we do without the food we get from Walmart.”

CRC Chattooga has been a beacon of hope for a decade, providing free groceries to families facing food insecurity. Remarkably, they have distributed an astounding 3 million meals during this time—a testament to the dedication of volunteers and the community’s unwavering support.
