On April 15, 2025, the LaFayette, Georgia, community was devastated by a tragic accident in Rock Spring that claimed the lives of two individuals, including LaFayette High School junior Brennon Beavers, a football and baseball player, and Cassidy (Cassy) Mitchell, LHS c/o 2024.

Another person, Cooper Mitchell LHS c/o 2028 (Cassy’s brother), was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga with critical injuries.

LaFayette High School’s football team expressed its sorrow on Facebook, stating:

“We are heartbroken. Yesterday, we lost one of our own. Brennon Beavers was more than a football player. Brennon was a leader, a brother, and the heart of our locker room. Our team, school, and community are grieving alongside his family, and we ask that you keep them in your prayers. We will honor his life, his number, and his impact every step of the way this season. Once a Rambler, always a Rambler.”

According to Rachel Trundle, LaFayette High School’s athletic trainer, the baseball team decided this morning they still want to play the baseball game at Trion on Friday. “They said it’s what Brennon would want.”

Please come out and support these young men and their families.

The Lookout Mountain Fellowship of Christian Athletes shared a video from LHS this morning, stating: “LaFayette HS FCA utilized this morning as platform for students, staff & volunteers to unite in memory of Brennon Beavers, junior baseball & football player that lost his life yesterday in an auto accident. God spoke through this young lady! Attendees signing a memory banner and receiving black ribbons to wear. Prayers for all of the Rambler Family.”

This recent tragedy echoes a similar heartbreak that struck the neighboring community of Chattooga County in October 2022. That accident, a single-vehicle crash on Georgia Highway 114 resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including three Chattooga High School student-athletes: 14-year-old TyDraevius “Drae” Dozier, 15-year-old Xavier Gray, and 16-year-old Zantivian “Duke” Brown.

In the wake of that tragedy, the Chattooga High School football team shared their grief on social media:

“Praying for the LaFayette community during this difficult time. Prayers and thoughts to the families.“

And we are all Ramblers today. Please keep these families and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
