VFW Post 6688 and local veteran advocates will honor our Vietnam veterans at a lunch and Honor Awards program on Friday, March 29 at 11:30am. The event will be held at the Chattooga County Memorial Home at 818 Memorial Drive Summerville, Georgia. All Vietnam veterans and their family are encouraged to attend.

The State of Georgia wants to honor every one of its 234,000 Vietnam veterans with an Honor Certificate and a Federal Department of Defense pin. The state asks that these awards be presented in a special ceremony. Those who served during the Vietnam Era from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975 are eligible for these awards whether they served in-country or at military posts across the world.

Approximately 240 of our local Vietnam veterans have already received their Honor Awards, but many have not. Vietnam veterans who have not received these awards are asked to call Kim Snow at the Chattooga Extension office to provide military information so official certificates can be ordered. Please call Kim by March 11 at 706-857-0744.

Patricia Ross, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, and Major General Thomas Carden, Adjutant General of the Georgia Department of Defense, will be special guests and will officially present the Honor Awards. For further information , call Odell Anderson at 706-397-2394 or Barbara Reece at 706-862-2657.
