A two-vehicle crash on Dry Creek Road Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a 15-year-old male motorcyclist. The collision occurred at approximately 4:18 p.m. and involved a red Honda XR400 motorcycle and a black Tesla S.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the motorcyclist, identified as Elijah Andrew Espy, was traveling north on Dry Creek Road when a southbound Tesla slowed to turn left into a driveway. The motorcycle struck the right passenger door of the Tesla, ejecting the rider.
Espy, a student at Armuchee High School, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Tesla, identified as Irving Hendrick, 61, was not injured.
In a statement, Armuchee High School expressed heartbreak over the loss, saying:
“Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of one of our own. Yesterday, tragedy struck our Armuchee community once again, claiming the life of one of our students. This morning, our AHS family came together to support one another, with counselors available for any student or staff member who needs additional help during this difficult time. While today has been incredibly heavy for our students, staff, and community, the love, compassion, and strength within the Armuchee family continue to shine through. Our scheduled pep rally has been postponed as we take time to grieve and care for one another. Please continue to keep this student’s family, friends, and our entire community in your thoughts and prayers.”
