Summerville Welcomes Train Tourists And Locals With Great Ice Cream & Fun

Summerville welcomed in the first train arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum on June 1st with the Great Chill & Churn Ice Cream Contest. The double steam engine train arrival was a full train, attracting rail fans of all ages.

The Summerville Depot was full of excitement for the Ice Cream Eating Contest for youth and adults. Cheering from the crowds watching the contest were also combined with laughter as the contestants battled it out for prizes while trying to avoid a brain freeze. Cash Prizes of $25 were sponsored by GP Federal Credit Union for 1st Place and were awarded in each age division. Gift cards in the amount of $10 sponsored by Summerville Main Street for Artic Fox Creamery were awarded to 2nd and 3rd Place in each age division.

Winners for the Youth Division of the Ice Cream Eating Contest were as follows:

1st Place – Bentley Haslacker      2nd Place – Aydin Painter                     3rd Place – Hendrix Williams

Winners for the Adult Division of the Ice Cream Eating Contest were as follows:

 1st Place –  Russell Dixan              2nd Place – Josh Haslacker            3rd Place – LaShonda Horne

The Homemade Ice Cream Contest was a big hit for the contestants as well as the event goers with wristbands to taste all of the entries and vote for their favorite entry to win the People’s Choice Award. Judges did their own tasting to determine who would win the coveted spots of 1st -3rd Place Winners. The 1st Place Judges Choice Award of $500 was sponsored by Meter Service & Sales, LLC. The 2nd Place Judges Choice Award of $250 was sponsored by Rapid Water Recovery Services and 3rd Place Judges Choice Award of $100 was sponsored by Chattooga Farm Bureau. People’s Choice Award received a cash prize of $362.00

 1st Place – Billy Cook      2nd Place – Reita Cabe        3rd Place – Stan Rosser Small Town BBQ

The next scheduled train arrival is set for June 22nd. Summerville Main Street is set to host a new event that is anticipated to be hit celebrating the southern heritage and culture. A Taste of The South will run from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and will be free for the public to attend.
