Honoring the incredible Ms. Mildred Cordle, our 2024 Summerville Christmas Parade Grand Marshal! Her life of service and dedication truly embodies the magic of Christmas. #CommunityHero

On Monday, December 2nd, Summerville’s annual Christmas Parade brought joy to the community, and this year’s Grand Marshal, Ms. Mildred Cordle, added a special touch of inspiration to the celebration. Known lovingly as “Ms. Mildred,” she described the honor as “the first time I have ever done anything this great.”

True to her spirited personality, Ms. Mildred chose to ride in the back of a beautifully restored pickup truck owned by Mr. Richard White. She borrowed a chair, settled in, and stayed cozy throughout the festive event, embodying the parade’s theme, “The Magic of Christmas.”

A Chattooga County resident since 1944, Ms. Mildred’s legacy extends far beyond her role in the parade. Many remember her for her famous fried apple pies and the flourishing Cordle Apple Orchard, which she and her late husband, Bernard, ran for over two decades.

Her life has been one of faith and service. Since 1961, Ms. Mildred has dedicated herself to her Christian walk, inspiring countless others through her work in youth ministries, church leadership roles, and community service.

At 87, Ms. Mildred continues to make an impact. Through her work with the Menlo Lions Club, she has helped over 400 people receive free eyeglasses and has provided personal hygiene packages to hundreds of seniors and residents in need.

Currently employed by the Athens Community Council on Aging and an active Summerville Main Street Volunteer, Ms. Mildred is a shining example of generosity, faith, and dedication to her community.

Thank you, Ms. Mildred, for all you’ve done and continue to do.
