The State Board of Education (SBOE) voted to recommend the suspension of all sitting members of the Dublin City Board of Education to Governor Brian Kemp.
The SBOE scheduled the hearing in accordance with O.C.G.A. § 20-2-73, which requires that the State Board of Education conduct such a hearing when a local school system or school is placed on the level of accreditation immediately preceding loss of accreditation by one or more accrediting agencies.
The Dublin City School District faced a $20 million deficit after a financial crisis came to light, prompting the state to step in with emergency payroll assistance. In April, an outside accrediting firm, Cognia, downgraded the district from “accredited” to “accredited under conditions” — one step from losing accreditation entirely.
