The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair among other groups will be sponsoring the Mason & Zach Greene Memorial Bull Riding event this Saturday. The bull riding will start at 8 pm, gates open at 6 pm at the Chattooga County Agriculture Building located on Highway 100 in front of the Chattooga Middle School.
The Bull Ride is in memory of two Chattooga County boys who were lost in a car accident, Mason Greene, age 12, and Zach Greene, age 6. Their father, Marshall Green, is one of the most well-known rodeo clowns in the Southeast. The bull ride will be a fitting tribute to their memory and their father’s legacy.
Mason was a 7th grader at Summerville Middle School, in the band and the treasurer of the FFA. He is remembered by his teacher Lauren Jarrett, who said, “Mason had the kindest heart. He was always willing to help in the classroom and with FFA activities. Zach would ride the bus to our school when we had after-school FFA activities. He would always make sure Zach got to the ag room and he looked out for him. Each year at SMS, we give an award to a 7th grader called Mason Greene Kindness Award.”
The event is being presented by the Summerville Middle School FFA. This will be the first bull riding event held at the Ag Center. Work has been taking place for a few weeks to get the arena, bucking chutes and bleachers in place.
Lauren Jarrett commented, “The AG building is great addition to our county. Not only is it a great location for our fair, it offers us a nice facility to host a variety of events in that community that bring people to Chattooga County.” 4L rodeo company is the providing the Bulls for the event and Marshall Greene will be the rodeo clown. Local celebrity bull riders Hayden Burdick and Sean Willingham will be riding in the event.
