In the early hours of Sunday at 4:09 a.m., Chattooga County 911 dispatched emergency personnel to a structure fire in the 1200 block of Ridgeway Drive in Trion. According to a press release from Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy McElhaney, multiple fatalities were reported.
Coroner McElhaney responded immediately to the scene and pronounced two individuals dead. At this time, their identities have not been released. The coroner’s office will transport both deceased to the Medical Examiner’s office in Atlanta for further examination and identification.
Investigators from the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office remain in the early stages of examining the cause and circumstances of the fire, and more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
The Trion Fire Department, Summerville Fire Department, Hayes Correctional Fire Department, Atrium-Floyd EMS, Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department, and the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office all responded to the scene.
