The short of it:

  • A group of Buddhist monks entered Georgia at West Point as they continue their nearly 120-day transcontinental peace walk.
  • The spiritual journey started in Fort Worth, Texas, and will conclude in Washington, D.C., in February.
  • The pilgrims are making their way through western Georgia with community gatherings scheduled in LaGrange and Hogansville.

Buddhist monks on a months-long walking pilgrimage to advocate for peace and national unity arrived in Georgia late Thursday evening.

The ambitious journey, which spans nearly 120 days, launched from Fort Worth, Texas, in October and is set to conclude in the nation’s capital in February. Throughout their trek, the monks have gained a substantial social media following, with supporters tracking their daily movements through towns and cities nationwide.

The pilgrimage aims to foster national healing, promote unity, encourage compassion, and inspire mindful living. During their passage through Alabama, the monks paused to conduct a public meditation gathering and share their message with local residents.

The walking pilgrims are anticipated to reach the metro Atlanta area within the next week.

What they’re saying:

The group celebrated their Georgia arrival in a livestream posted Friday.

“We crossed into Georgia and received a huge, crowded welcome here in West Point on Day 62. Thank you so much,” the post said. “May you and all beings be happy and at peace.”
