American Idol Moving Production From Hollywood to Georgia for Landmark 25th Season

The popular singing competition American Idol is leaving Hollywood behind, with production moving from Los Angeles to Georgia ahead of the show’s 25th season.

The move was confirmed by Fremantle, the production company behind the ABC series. However, the company has not yet announced the exact Georgia filming location. Reports indicate that Fremantle is in final discussions with a studio complex in the Atlanta area, though a deal had not been finalized as of the announcement.

The relocation marks a significant change for a show that has filmed in the Los Angeles area for more than two decades. American Idol originally premiered in 2002 and has helped launch the careers of artists including Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood.

Season 25 Expected in 2027

The show’s 25th season is expected to premiere in 2027. Current judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are expected to return, along with host Ryan Seacrest, a Georgia native from Dunwoody.

The move also follows changes to the show’s traditional Hollywood Week. During the most recent season, the competition’s Hollywood Week events were held at Belmont University’s Fisher Center in Nashville, Tennessee, under the theme “Music City Takeover.”

Georgia’s Film Industry Continues to Grow

Georgia’s film and television production industry has attracted major projects through its production infrastructure, workforce and tax incentives. Qualifying productions can receive a 20% base tax credit, with the potential for an additional 10% uplift for eligible projects.

Industry experts told Atlanta News First that American Idol‘s arrival could create production jobs and internship opportunities, although the number of jobs associated with the show has not been announced.
