In 2008 Maddux was appointed as a mentor for new judges and has been assigned to new judges from Floyd, Dade and Whitfield counties. In May 2010 he was appointed as the municipal Judge position in Trion, the same position he will serve in Summerville.

For the last twenty years Maddux has served his community in some form. Maddux, an Army Veteran, was on active duty during Desert Shield/Desert Storm as a weapons instructor. When he returned to reserve status he applied to the Summerville Police Department and was hired in 1992 by Chief Gilliland. “I was there (SPD) 5 years when Country Brown passed away. I was approached by several in the community about running (for chief magistrate) and after talking it over with my family friends decided to go for it. That was 20 years ago,” said Maddux.
