Democratic Congressional candidate Shawn Harris will visit Chattooga County on Saturday, August 10th to meet and greet voters. This event will be held at the Summerville Senior Center (Chattooga Nutrition), located at 184 Senior Drive in Summerville. It’s open to all voters and will be held from 1pm – 3pm.

Shawn is touring the 14th District to mark the one-year anniversary of his announcement to unseat Marjorie Taylor Greene in the US Congress.

Shawn’s resume reflects his commitment. After 40 years of military service, Shawn retired as an Army Brigadier General. He and his wife Karla have five children and four grandchildren. They live in Rockmart, Georgia, where together they run their first-generation grass-fed cattle farm, and Karla works as a family doctor.

Shawn is a native Georgian, growing up in Blakely, Georgia, on his family’s farm. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Sergeant. Later he got his B.A. in Agribusiness at Tuskegee University, where Shawn was a member of Omega Psi Phi, and where he and Karla met and married.

After 9/11, Shawn was deployed as an infantry commander in Afghanistan, where he saw extensive combat. Shawn later served as a senior military advisor in posts around the world. Hewas awarded several military honors for leadership and valor, and he also earned a degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.

When asked why he’s running, Shawn explains, “The rising cost of living keeps everyone working extra hard to make ends meet. And everyday people just don’t feel like anyone’s listening to them.”

“The way I see it, Georgians work hard. But our hard work would go a lot farther if we had someone in Congress working to raise Georgians’ pay and lower costs, so everybody can have the tools and opportunities to build a good life. We should be building things here again, exporting American products instead of American jobs, and growing our economy with more quality, good-paying jobs close to home here in North Georgia.”

“We see our Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene on TV all the time, but she’s not talking about any of the things that matter to people around here. And everywhere I go, people tell me they are troubled that her values do not align with ours.”

In conjunction with the reception, the Chattooga Democrats will hold a volunteer drive for anyone interested in getting involved. Activities are varied and can tailored to each person, including hosting events, knocking on doors (possibly paid positions too!), making phone calls, writing postcards, friend-to-friend texting, or handing out yard signs.
