Two months after Chattooga County Sole Commissioner Jason Winters stated that an audit by accountant Chrysan Thomas uncovered payments to the Probate Judge for vital records fees which Winters was unaware of, Commissioner Winters has passed a resolution to limit the probate judge’s fees which are collected for vital records to the amount of $7,500 and instead divert the funds to the county by way of the county clerk. Commissioner Winters signed Resolution 15-9-68 on October 20, 2017.
Probate Judge Jon Payne’s attorney Albert Palmour is preparing a response to the new resolution. Read more on the background of this resolution here.
