Commissioner Jason Winters announced the addition of Phil Cavin to county staff as Director of Retail Business and Industrial Recruitment on behalf of Chattooga County. Phil is a lifelong resident of Chattooga County and will work to help bring new retail businesses, restaurants, and new industry to Chattooga County. Commissioner Winters stated , “as our local economy improves and we have seen our local unemployment rate drop from 12% to 6% we are beginning to have many businesses look at Chattooga County to locate. Job recruitment and quality of life improvements are extremely important to the citizens of this county and we not want to miss any opportunities.”
Phil graduated for Chattooga High School in 1971 and holds degrees from Berry College and Jacksonville State University. He has been very involved in the textile and plastics industry and has a strong background in local government serving two terms as a Councilman for the City of Summerville. Phil was very involved in the creation and development of the Summerville Industrial Park and Image Industries which is now owned by Mohawk Industries.
Phil is married to Beth Cavin and they reside in Summerville. Cavin stated, ” I want to add to the growth that our county has seen over the last several years and make sure that this county continues to be the best place for my kids and grandkids to call home. I look forward to this exciting opportunity.”
