Chattooga County Sole Commissioner Andy Allen Appoints Board of Elections Members

Chattooga County Sole Commissioner Andy Allen officially named the members of the newly established Chattooga County Board of Elections during a public meeting held Monday evening at the Chattooga County Civic Center in Summerville.

The Board of Elections, created under House Bill 1063 during the 2024 session of the Georgia General Assembly, became effective January 1, 2025, Allen’s first day in office. According to the resolution, the Board’s creation is by Georgia law, outlining specific guidelines for membership selection.

The resolution establishing the Board states:

• The Board will include two members nominated by the Democratic Party, two members nominated by the Republican Party, and one at-large member selected by the Commissioner, regardless of political affiliation.
• The Democratic and Republican Parties submitted their respective nominations in late 2024 and early 2025.
• Commissioner Allen reviewed the nominations and appointed the following individuals:
  • Alfred McDaniel
  • Brandon Gurley
  • John Agnew
  • Gartrelle Davison
  • Patricia Brison (Chairperson)

The resolution also stipulates that McDaniel and Agnew will serve an initial term of two years. The Board will oversee elections and voter registration in the county.

Commissioner Allen emphasized the importance of the role, expressing gratitude to those willing to serve. He also commended his staff for their efficiency in preparing the resolution, saying, “This is a significant responsibility, and I appreciate everyone who stepped up to serve. I’m proud of my team for getting this resolution together so quickly.”
