Chattooga County to Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with Unity and Service Events

On January 19, the Chattooga County community will gather to honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through events emphasizing unity and service. An Ecumenical Service will occur at Hemphill A.M.E. Zion Church at 56 Lee Street in Summerville, starting at 3 PM. The Rev. Charles Watkins Sr. will deliver the keynote address. Before the service, attendees are invited to a complimentary dinner at 2 PM in the church’s fellowship hall, fostering fellowship and reflection among community members.

The celebration continues with a “Day of Service” on January 20, beginning at 11 AM at the Fairway Recreation Center on Senior Drive in Summerville. Volunteers will participate in community service projects, including supporting the after-school tutoring program, “Felicia’s Kids.” Participants will receive refreshments as they honor Dr. King’s legacy of service and social justice. The local MLK Jr. committee organizes the events, with Rev. Robert Barrett as president. The public is warmly encouraged to join these events to celebrate Dr. King’s lasting impact and vision of unity and service.
