Thursday, August 22

5:30pm—Gwen Fisher—Chattooga County Master Gardeners—Plantain Salve—Got fire ants??? Join Gwen Fisher and learn how to create a soothing salve to cool down the burn and itch of fire ant stings using a plant found in most yards and fields in our area.

Friday, August 23

5:30pm— Stacie Marshall—Mountain Mama Farms – From her family farm in Gore, Ms. Marshall specializes in Appalachian Heritage Products such as bees wax candles, goat’s milk soap, herbal salves, and remedies. This year, Stacie will be discussing elderberry syrup and other wellness remedies.

7:00 pm—Lacey Hames and Kelli Winters—Create Your Own Bouquet—Lacey Hames and Kelli Winters demonstrate how to build a bouquet using locally grown flowers. You will make and take your very own bouquet!

Saturday, August 24

2:30pm Kathy Berry – Kathy’s Kane Patch – Chair seat weaving demonstration – Chair caning, or weaving, dates to the early days of China when these types of seats were reserved for the affluent, and the wooden seats were for commoners. Today, this nearly lost art can mainly be found on heirloom chairs and rockers. Ms. Berry will demonstrate the techniques that create and help restore these cherished pieces.

4:00pm Jose and Amanda Rivera—Jojo’s Leaf Juice– Teas and lemonades—Nothing beats the icy freshness of a cold glass of tea or lemonade. Join Jose and Amanda to discover delicious herbal blends of flavors for summer. Sample some of their favorite creations and learn about their local business and all the products they have to offer. 5:30pm Stephanie Yarbrough—D & S Produce and Mercantile—Outlaw Vanilla—Stephanie will demonstrate the art of creating your own vanilla using just two products and a clean sterile jar. Tap into your inner outlaw and come learn how.

Sunday, August 25

2:30pm Joy Phelan—Chattooga Master Gardeners and Logan Money—NWGT Horticulture program—Joy and Logan will demonstrate the process of building hügelkultur garden beds. Hügelkultur can be translated as “mound culture”—in which plants or crops are grown in raised beds are a rounded shape, or mound. This method of gardening that has been used for centuries in Eastern Europe and Germany, often as part of a broader permaculture system.

4:00pm Joy Phelan and Donna Sausville—Italian Giardiniera Relish—Joy and Donna will present the technique of making giardiniera, a spicy, crunchy Italian condiment made from pickled vegetables. Delicious on hot dogs, sandwiches and salads! There will be samples following the presentation.

5:30pm Sandy Wheat and Linda Leslie–Chattooga County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee—Ice Cream in a Bag—Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake! Shake that baggie! Make some yummy ice cream right inside a baggie with a tasty science experiment.
