With the 2016 election cycle going into the home stretch, Floyd County Democrats, and Republicans are both set to open up temporary headquarters. The Floyd County Democratic Party will launch their new office on Saturday, September 3 at 10am. The office will be located at 1902 Turner McCall Blvd. SW in Rome.
Redmond Regional Medical Center has announced the appointment of two new members to its board of trustees — Harbin Clinic cardiologist Dr. J. Michael Ware, and Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters. Ware, who joined Harbin in 1989, is the medical director of Redmond’s heart catheterization lab and its chest pain accreditation program. He is also chairman of the Harbin Clinic Cardiology Group.
The 12th annual Floyd County Republican Party Tillman Hangar Rally is set for Saturday, August 13. Gates open at 10am with program beginning at 11am. The Tillman Hangar is located at the Russell Regional Airport/Towers Field at 304 Russell Field Road NE in Rome off Highway 27 above Armuchee.
The Rome City Commission has proposed a 1.5 mill increase in the property tax rate for city residents. A final vote wouldn't take place until July after three advertised public hearings take place, as required, with a final vote expected by July 25. Dates and times fort he three public hearings had not been finalized at the time of this report.

With just three days left of early voting before the May 24th primary election, the Floyd County Board of Elections has had over 1,000 people vote so far. As of May 17, Floyd County has seen 1,037 in-person voters and has mailed out 297 absentee ballots, according to Floyd County Elections Clerk Donna Brandon.
The Rome TEA Party will host a Candidate Town Hall featuring four County Commission and four County Board of Education candidates on Thursday, April 28th, 6:00-8:00 PM at Shalom Rome 710 East First Street.
On "Super Tuesday," Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump won big with Floyd County voters in the Presidential preference primary. The county-by-county results show both Clinton and Trump with big leads over opponents across most of the state of Georgia, and Floyd County was no different.
Former Mayor, and Rome City Commissioner Wright Bagby Jr. announced Tuesday that he will challenge incumbent Garry Fricks for Post 2 on the Floyd County Commission. Wright served on the Rome City Commission from 2014 through 2011, serving as the appointed Mayor of Rome from 2008 through 2010. Fricks has served on the County Commission since 1998.
