Smiles, Giggles, and Hugs pre-K students visited OTC’s Dental Assisting classroom on Tuesday, February 27th. The Dental Assisting students played games with the pre-K students and talked about germ bugs (bacterial plaque) as well as proper brushing and flossing. Possibly, the most exciting part was getting to ride in the big dental chair and use “Mr. Thirsty”.
The event works well with the Dental Assisting curiculum which includes teaching Dental Assisting students to educate and counsel patients in the areas of dental disease, oral hygiene, and nutrition.
The Dental Assisting program director, Yvonne Jenkins, said that she was pleased by how hard her students had worked on their presentations. “I’m happy that we have the opportunity to share this information with the children. It is important that children start good dental health habits now for a lifetime of good oral health.”
We had one additional grown-up visitor who really enjoyed riding in the big dental chair but was disappointed when she didn’t get a toy from the treasure box even though she was a good girl!
