Sarah Myers, a former graduate of OTC’s Surgical Technology program, was invited as the guest speaker for the ceremony. Myers is a certified Surgical Technologist at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, who specializes in robotics, and shared some words of wisdom with this year’s graduates about patient care.

“Our career is one that constantly changes and requires you to have a strong function of adaptability and common sense,” said Myers. “[The patient] may not remember you, they may not remember the kindness that you showed, but in that moment, you are important to them and their healing journey. As you go out into the world and into your career fields always remember that the patient comes first.”

Following Myers comments the students were awarded pins by OTC’s Surgical Technology instructor, Terri Stack.

“I would like to say that it has been an honor to teach such wonderful students the past 5 1/2 years at OTC,” said Stack. “I am proud to hear all the wonderful comments from hospital personnel about the quality of OTC’s students.  This class has worked hard and have handled the challenges beautifully.  I am so proud of each of them.”

The 11 students who received their pins were: Makayla Barefield, Courtney Cribbs, Jessica Green, Jade Hoyle, Kassidee Hutchison, Zana Kirkland, Shaneqia Mercer, Kodi Reno, Alexis Richardson, Amy Wells, and Mia White.
