At a brief ceremony held in the Joseph E. Kennedy Building at Ogeechee Technical College on Thursday, September 30, Director for Campus Safety, Ryan McNeal, and OTC Officer, Kelli Powers, were sworn in as deputies of the Evans County Sheriff’s Department by Sheriff Mac Edwards.

“It is great to have such excellent relationships with the public safety agencies who also operate where OTC maintains a campus,” said McNeal. “Sheriff Edwards is a huge supporter of OTC, and is always willing to assist OTC Campus Safety in maintaining the safety and security of OTC’s Hagan campus.”

Having jurisdiction in Evans County allows campus safety personnel to create a measure of consistency for public safety services across OTC’s multiple locations. “This partnership between our Sheriff’s department and Ogeechee Tech allows Chief McNeal and his staff to serve as Deputies of Evans County,” said Sheriff Edwards. “Not only does this generate positive growth for both parties, but at the end of the day we are each a part of the same team and the safety of Evans County and its citizens is our priority.”

Then why does OTC need a department at all? Seems like the sheriff gets two extra deputies on the states tax payers dime.

It’s a satellite campus, how many car chases are OTC staff getting into which require jurisdictioncoutside of the schools state jurisdiction?
