Ogeechee Technical College Shines at National SkillsUSA Competition with Dual Silver Medals

Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) announced the remarkable achievements of its students at the National SkillsUSA Competition held from June 24-28, 2024, in Atlanta, GA. OTC students demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, securing Silver medals in both the Cybersecurity and Career Pathways-Industrial/Engineering Technology competitions.

Competing at the national level is an extraordinary feat, as participants must first win Gold at the state level to qualify. OTC’s outstanding performance underscores the high level of expertise and commitment of its students and faculty.

OTC also had two faculty members represent the college on a national stage as judges. Paula Clifton, OTC’s Early Childhood Care and Education Program Director, served as a Chair for the Early Childhood competition.

“This was another career highlight for me at OTC,” said Clifton, who had the honor of awarding medals to the Post-Secondary Early Childhood students on the State Farm Arena stage.

DJ Albright, a Cosmetology Instructor at OTC, contributed as a judge in the Esthetics competition. Reflecting on the experience, Albright said, “I enjoyed meeting professionals from across the country, all dedicated to helping students excel. This event filled me with admiration and appreciation for technical schools nationwide. It makes me proud to be part of OTC.”

The opening and closing ceremonies, held at the State Farm Arena, attracted approximately 16,000 attendees. The competition featured over 6,700 high school and college post-secondary competitors. Georgia’s impressive tally of 58 medals, including 19 Gold, 15 Silver, and 24 Bronze, placed the state 6th highest in the nation.
