Bulloch County Schools will again host its free Summer Learning Academies. Register your interest online here by May 5, or on the school district’s website.

The program is open to children who are enrolled in Kindergarten through fifth-grade for the 2022-2023 school year. Families are asked to register their interest for programs for the grade level that their child will complete this school year. Space is limited, so only register for a program that a child will be able to attend at least 80 percent of the class days.

The academies will provide fun and engaging lessons and experiences that focus on the key English and math skills students will need to help them be successful in their next grade level. Some offerings will vary across the multiple learning sites.

The half-day program will meet May 31 through June 30, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, at three central locations. Participants will be provided free breakfast and lunch through the school district’s summer feeding program. School bus transportation is also available, if needed. Depending on the bus transportation needs of registered children, some site times may be adjusted.

These are the central sites for this year’s Summer Learning Academies:

  • Brooklet Elementary School (serves students from Brooklet, Stilson & Nevils)
  • Julia P. Bryant Elementary School (serves students from Julia P. Bryant, Portal and Mattie Lively)
  • Sallie Zetterower Elementary School (serves students Sallie Zetterower, Langston Chapel, and Mill Creek)

These learning opportunities have been made possible for the past two summers and this year with federal relief funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. The COVID-19 global pandemic created learning gaps and many home and community factors that continue to affect learning. The school district began implementing a five-year plan two years ago to invest its federal stimulus funds in its schools and summer programs to best help children.

Summer programs for students who receive English language learning, special education, or 21st Century Communities services are by invitation only based on identified needs. Families whose children will be invited to attend these programs will be contacted directly.
