Statesboro Police Dept Issues Public Service Announcement Regarding Entering Autos

According to the Statesboro Police Department, there has been a drastic increase in entering auto incidents. Due to this, SPD has shared some safety tips to help citizens and visitors of the community from becoming a victim. These tips could also help officers catch the offenders.

Safety Tips from SPD:

1.Lock your vehicle every time you exit it and check to make sure it is locked before you walk away. Whether it’s at work, the grocery store, the bank, or even your residence, leaving your vehicle unlocked makes it an easy target.

2.Take your valuables with you when you leave the vehicle. A cell phone, purse, checkbook, computer or firearm that is visible from the window makes for an almost guaranteed prize for a criminal.

3.If you can’t take certain valuables with you when you leave the vehicle, make sure they are secured out of sight, lock them in your trunk or hide them well under a seat or in your glove box or console. If you drive a truck with a lockable tool box, lock them in it.

4.Be mindful and vigilant when you are out and about. If you see someone behaving suspiciously, looking in windows or pulling on door handles of parked vehicles or wandering around a parking lot for an extended period of time with no apparent reason please report it to us immediately by calling 911 or (912) 764-9911. 5.Register your personal property with Report It, a free service offered by the Statesboro Police Department.
