Statesboro Police Department detectives are investigating after a shooting Tuesday night at Eagle Court Apartments on Lanier Drive. Officers responded after hearing shots and being directed to the location by the Flock gunshot detector. A male with gunshot wounds was discovered in an apartment, and was uncooperative with officers. He was found to be in possession of fentanyl. One of the officers was exposed to the fentanyl and treated at EGRMC. The gunshot victim was flown to Memorial in Savannah. Detectives are investigating the shooting and the possession of fentanyl.

On 5/7/24 at 11:18 p.m. officers in the area of Eagle Court Apartments on Lanier Drive heard gunshots and were directed into that complex by Flock gunshot detection sensors. Officers located a 29 year old male with two non-fatal gunshot wounds inside an apartment and began to render aid. The victim was uncooperative with officers and was found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected fentanyl. One officer was exposed to the effects of the suspected fentanyl while rendering aid and had to be treated at East Georgia Regional Medical Center as a result. That officer was treated and released at EGRMC. The shooting victim was flown to Memorial in Savannah for further treatment where he remains in stable condition.
Detectives and officers canvassed the area for witnesses and video and secured items of physical evidence from the parking lot. Detectives are investigating both the shooting and the victim’s possession of the fentanyl, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. He was under supervision for a previous conviction for armed robbery.
