UPDATE 04/27/2026 from SPD: The Statesboro Police Department has made a second arrest regarding the shooting incident that occurred in Groover Homes on April 23, 2026.
A 16-year-old male, the second suspect wanted in connection with the shooting, was taken into custody today. He is currently being held by the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. To comply with privacy laws regarding minors, the identities of all juveniles involved are being withheld.
The victim of the shooting remains under medical treatment at Memorial Health.

UPDATE 04/24/2026 from SPD: Since the evening of April 23, 2026, detectives have continued their investigation into the shooting of a 16-year-old juvenile. Investigators have remained in constant contact with the victim’s family and the staff at Memorial University Health. The juvenile’s condition has since stabilized and improved; detectives hope to interview him within the coming days.

Based on recent investigative efforts, a 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. He is currently being held in the custody of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. Detectives are actively seeking a second offender, also 16 years old. Statesboro Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting Thursday at Groover Homes on Packinghouse Road. The victim was a teenage male. He was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center before being flown to Memorial Health in Savannah, where he remains in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing. The Statesboro Police Department (SPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred on the evening of April 23, 2026, leaving a teenager in critical condition.
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on April 23, SPD Patrol officers were dispatched to the Groover Homes complex on PackinghouseRoad following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male victim and rendered immediate aid. The victim was transported by Bulloch EMS to East Georgia Regional Medical Center and subsequently flown to Memorial Health in Savannah, where he remains in critical condition.
Detectives assigned to the case have processed the scene and conducted multiple interviews. Investigators believe there were additional witnesses present who left the scene before police arrived or who have not yet come forward. This information is considered vital to the investigation.
