The free program consists of a class each Tuesday evening, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., for 6 weeks.

SPD says the classes cover topics such as patrol, traffic enforcement, investigation, covert operations, and our K9 and SWAT teams. The presentations are slide show/lecture style and will be given by SPD officers and detectives. There will also be multiple opportunities for hands-on learning through equipment demonstrations and practical scenarios.

Applications are available at SPD, located at 25 West Grady Street, and available by email. The deadline to turn in a completed application is August 24th. Seats are limited, as they are only accepting 15 citizens on a first come, first serve basis.

The department encourages all applicants to be able to commit to the full 6 weeks to get the most out of the program. Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy are eligible to join the Alumni Association for continued learning opportunities and involvement with the Statesboro Police Department.

Anyone with questions about the Citizens Police Academy is asked to contact Captain Kaleb Moore at
