Summerville Main Street recently completed a special Downtown Development project that involved the placement of Adirondack chairs at the Summerville Depot area, as well as downtown. The project was chaired by Board of Director members Connie Howard and Kathy Dillard.

Citizens were given the opportunity to sponsor Adirondack Chairs in a variety of colors to honor an agency or individual, memorialize loved ones, or commemorate a special event. The chairs would be used as seating for locals and visitors that gather in and around the depot area and downtown. A total of 19 chairs were sponsored.

One of the chairs is in memory of Cody Hogue. The chair provides a place for his family to feel connected to him, “we still make time to go by to sit at these chairs just to enjoy our time with him watching down on us,” Jennifer Hogue said. “We love our community and so thankful we have this chair to represent him after all the hard work he did for our small town and Chattooga County.”

The adirondack chairs were purchased by the city through sponsorship money and assembled by Chattooga High School students. Chattooga Printing constructed the plaques placed on each chair and City of Summerville staff was responsible for the installation of the chairs.

Chairs were placed on the Summerville Depot deck that overlooks Town Creek, in front of the Montgomery Knitting Mill Courtyard, and around the Couey House area. Plaques are placed on each chair in honor of, or in remembrance of loved ones or members of our community. The public is encouraged to enjoy using the chairs and reading the plaques.

I this was an awesome idea! The chairs are beautiful. I was not aware of the project until the chairs started appearing around town. I look forward to being able to honor and memorialize my loved ones in the next round. What is the cost to sponsor?
