Trion Takes Third at State Duals

Trion’s senior wrestlers pulled off a first for the Bulldogs by attending their 4th consecutive State Duals Tournament after back-to-back Area Championships. The nine seniors in the lineup narrowly missed the finals in Macon with a one-point loss to Wesleyan. Commerce picked up the Single A title for the 17th year while the Bulldogs finished with a dominate win for 3rd Place. Trion has now placed Top 4 in each of the past four years.

The Trion wrestling program has been on a steady rise and this team was the culmination of many years of work for Head Coach Eric Brock and his squad. “I was really proud of the boys. It’s tough after a 1 point loss. They were heartbroken, but it says a lot about the leadership of our team to come back after a tough loss and get 3rd,” said Brock. The record run for the seniors has set a tone of high expectations on the mat in Trion. “This is the 4th straight year that these seniors have brought a state trophy home and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

The Trion wrestlers will now be heading into the Traditional State which begins with another trip to Area where each wrestler will compete for individual honors, but still accumulate team points.  Trion looks to have several wrestlers seeded at the Area and State events as they look to build on three consecutive State Runner Up finishes.
