Jarrett looks to continue success as a Viking

Berry College Softball team opens their season today at Ford Field against Maryville College. Head Coach Cori Thiermann is hoping to build off of last year’s successful 38-4 season, in which the Vikings went 19-2 in the Southern Athletic Association. The team went on to win the regular season championship, SAA tournament championship and earned the program’s first appearance at the NCAA Division III Championship.

The Vikings have nine new players this year, including standout newcomer, Junior Karlie Jarrett.

Jarrett is a 2013 Chattooga High School honor graduate. At Chattooga she lettered all four years in softball and basketball. Earning all-region titles all four years and thrice won the golden glove award. In the 2012-2013 season she earned the highest batting average award and was named region 7-AA offensive player of the year.

After high school Jarrett attended Georgia Highlands College and continued to dominate in the classroom and on the softball field. Jarrett is a 2015 Georgia Highlands College honor graduate, with an Associates of Science. She continued her softball success at GHC as a two year starter and led the team in stolen bases in consecutive years. Both years she was a member of GHC All-Academic team. In the 2013-2014 season Jarrett received the GHC Coach’s Award. For the 2014-2015 season  she was named GHC offensive player of the year, named to the All-Conference team, and was ranked 5th in the conference in both batting average and stolen bases.

Jarrett is currently pursuing dual majors in mathematics and secondary education at Berry College, she plans to return back to Chattooga County after graduating to teach and coach. She has plenty of coaching experience already. She is the Summerville Middle School assistant softball coach. Jarrett also helps coach for the 12U travel team Lady Attack. In her spare time she gives lessons to various young athletes throughout the community.

Karlie Jarrett begins her conquest for sports awards at Berry today. There is no doubt she will have a positive impact on the win success for the Vikings. Head Coach Cori Thiermann, “our newcomers are already positively contributing to the growth of our program.”

Jarrett shared she is “excited to have the opportunity to play my first game in a Viking uniform.”

Karlie Jarrett is a hero and role model to many young girls in Chattooga County. All On Georgia asked Karlie who her role model was, “I would have to say my family is my role model. My dad taught me how to work hard at everything I do. My brothers were the greatest competition and greatest supporters anyone could ever ask for. Also my mom, she carried me all over the Southeast watching me fulfill my dreams….and the rest of my family for always supporting my goals. I couldn’t be more blessed or thankful for the wonderful people I have to call my family, they are the greatest people to have as role models.”

Karlie is the daughter of Charlie and Patti Jarrett of Summerville.
