Jared Akins Joins Statesboro Police Department

A new but familiar name has joined the team at the Statesboro Police Department.

Former Bulloch County Sheriff’s Deputy Jared Akins has been hired as a detective at the Statesboro Police Department. Akins served as the Chief Deputy under former Sheriff Lynn Anderson. He was also a candidate for Bulloch County Sheriff in 2016.

Akins officially began working for the police department on August 14, but the past week has been full of administrative work and ensuring all POST credentials were up-to-date and registered with the City of Statesboro.

Akins will be sworn in by Statesboro Mayor Jan Moore on Tuesday morning.

The detective position was an open position, advertised both internally and externally at the department. Akins applied for the position and came up first during the hiring testing process. He is the department’s 8th detective.

Police Chief Mike Broadhead said Monday, “We’re real excited to have Jared joining us here. He has a lot of experience and it’s local experience, he’s filed cases in this circuit already, which gives him an instant leg up. All of the work he’s already done is transferrable to this job now.”

Mayor Moore, ahead of swearing in Akins, said, “I am excited to have Jared Akins with the city and I think it is great that we can continue to retain great talent in our community.”

Congrats Jared! He will be a great addition to the Statesboro department. When I worked in Statesboro he was never too busy to answer any questions that I had. He doesn’t know what “off the clock” means…lol. Best of luck!!
