Chattooga Girls Basketball team Defeats Ringgold

The Chattooga Indians Girls Basketball team tipped off Thursday night as the hosting Indians defeated the Ringgold Tigers 58-55. The close competition was a prime example of the off-season adjustments and additions for Chattooga and was led by Senior Ziyah Underwood, who was the top scorer in the game with 17 points.
Second year Head Coach, Alvah Beasley, has his girls buying into a new winning philosophy and the results are apparent on the court. “I’m excited. Our players are excited. We have positive energy entering the season. Our team is extremely young and very inexperienced. We hope to replace our lack of experience with maximum effort each and every moment we are on the court.” says Beasley. With plenty of fresh faces on the court, Beasley has a game plan for getting the most out of his players. “For us to have a measure of success this season, we must control the pace of the game with our defense. Offensively, we must reduce our turnovers, take quality shots, and limit our opponent’s transition opportunities,” Beasley said.
Freshman Faith Ann Foster is expected to make a big impact for the Indians this season. Foster, who wears the #2, is hoping to have as much success on the court as her record-holding big brother Isaiah, when he wore the #2 jersey for Chattooga.
Winning Tradition
A winning culture has been spreading through the halls at the recently constructed Chattooga High School and senior Taylor Melton is planning on carry her success from the historic volleyball season over into basketball. The volley ball team advanced all the way to the final four in the first decade of its inception.
On the court, the girl’s basketball team has a long way to travel to get back to the state champion roots of the 1988 group but Beasley, and assistant coach Renee Beasley, are highly optimistic that the girls are on the right track. “One of 3 goals this season is to improve fundamentally. A number of games got away from us last year because we were not as fundamentally sound as we needed to be. Our second goal is to compete with maximum effort. Accomplishing these two goals will allow us to achieve our third goal: to be competitive every night. Completing these three goals will allow us to lay a foundation for future success. If we are able to accomplish these three goals we will have a successful season,” Beasley said.
