Statesboro to receive federal funds for infrastructure as part of DCA

As part of the program, the City of Statesboro will $500,000 for multi-infrastructure improvements.

Governor Deal recently announced that 74 Georgia communities will receive a total of $37.7 million in federal assistance to enhance their local economies as part of a US HUD award grant program.

“Strong and prosperous communities serve their citizens best and help attract businesses to Georgia,” said Deal in a prepared statement. “The projects funded by this program will stimulate economic development in these communities and enhance the quality of life for all Georgians. This program allows cities and counties to direct federal funding to address critical community needs, maximizing opportunities for citizens and ensuring that Georgia remains a top state for business.”

The facts:

  • 68 communities will divide $33.3 million in Community Development Block Grants for infrastructure improvements, neighborhood revitalization
  • $4.3 million in CDBG Employment Incentive Program and Redevelopment Fund awards were recently awarded to 11 Georgia communities to invest in redevelopment and economic development
  • 511 jobs have been created
  • Private investment tops $86,692,728

Georgia’s CDBG program annually supports projects in small and rural communities that create jobs and assist low- and moderate-income citizens. Awards ranging from $226,944 to $800,000 will be used for specific projects such as water, sewer, drainage or street improvements, revitalization of targeted neighborhoods, and construction of facilities such as health, youth and senior centers. Communities are required to complete their designated project within two years of the award.
