Chattooga County Courthouse Reopens After Bomb Threat Determined Not Credible

The Chattooga County Courthouse reopened Wednesday afternoon after a bomb threat prompted an evacuation and a thorough search of the building by law enforcement officials.

According to a statement released by Chattooga County Sole Commissioner Andy Allen, the threat was called in to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department on the morning of June 10. Out of an abundance of caution, courthouse employees and visitors were evacuated while deputies conducted a complete sweep of the facility.

Following the search, authorities determined there was no active threat, and the building was declared safe for employees and the public.

“The Sheriff’s Department has now completed its search and given the all-clear,” Allen said in the statement. “There is no active threat, and the courthouse has been deemed safe for employees and the public.”

County officials announced that the courthouse would reopen at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with all operations resuming as normal.

Allen expressed appreciation to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department, first responders, courthouse staff, and members of the public for their cooperation during the incident.

“I want to thank the Sheriff’s Department, first responders, courthouse staff, and the public for their calm cooperation during this incident,” Allen said. “The safety of our community remains our highest priority, and we are grateful for the swift and professional response from our law enforcement officers.”

No injuries were reported, and officials have not released any information regarding the source of the threat.

The incident temporarily disrupted courthouse operations but was resolved after authorities completed their investigation and determined the facility was safe to reopen.
