Trion wrestling put on a dominant performance at the GHSA Class 1 Area 7 Tournament, capturing the team championship with 240.5 points and advancing 10 wrestlers to this weekend’s sectional competition.
From start to finish, the Bulldogs competed hard and scored points in every weight class, finishing the day with 22 pins, 2 technical falls, and 3 decision wins.
Trion crowned four area champions:
- Silas Mills (126) – 1st
- Lane Broome (132) – 1st
- Coleman Lee (150) – 1st
- Clayton Loughridge (157) – 1st
Three wrestlers earned runner-up finishes:
- Josh Chandler (113) – 2nd
- Curt Hambright (144) – 2nd
- Brandon Chandler (190) – 2nd
Rounding out the sectional qualifiers:
- Sammy Edgeworth (106) – 3rd
- Junior Ambrocio (138) – 3rd
- Frank Carillo (175) – 4th
Additionally, Wylan Ledford (165) and Hayden Linam (285) finished 5th and will serve as alternates.
The 10 sectional qualifiers will compete this weekend for a chance to advance to the state tournament. Every wrestler did their job, battled all day, and contributed to the team score in what proved to be a complete team effort for the Bulldogs.
Trion’s wrestlers will look to carry this momentum into sectionals as they chase state tournament berths.
