Chattooga Track Preview

As the spring season gets closer, excitement is growing around the high school track and field team. With several strong returners and a lot of new athletes joining, both the girls’ and boys’ teams are ready for another competitive season. The girls’ team is coming in strong with many athletes who already made a name for themselves at sectionals and state last year. Leading the team is Talia Sanders, the 2024–25 State Champion in the 100m. She is expected to continue dominating in both the 100m and 200m and will once again be a big part of the 4x100m relay. Briasia Morton also returns after qualifying for sectionals in the 100m and 200m and making it to State in the Long Jump. She will also be an important runner on the 4x100m relay. In the field events, Briana Finley is back after qualifying for State in Shot Put, and Amiyah Hudgins returns with confidence after placing Top 5 in the State in High Jump. The girls’ 4x100m relay team is also looking strong this season, with Cameryn Smith, Briasia Morton, and Talia Sanders returning after finishing 2nd at State last year. The team is currently working to find the final runner for the relay, hoping to make another deep run in the postseason. With many returning sectional and state athletes and new competitors pushing for spots, the girls’ team is expected to be just as competitive as last season. On the boys’ side, the team brings back key athletes while adding a large group of new runners, including a talented freshman class. Tyshawn Summerlin returns as a leader after qualifying for sectionals in the 400m. D’Javi Freeman also comes back after qualifying for sectionals in the Long Jump. The added depth from new athletes is expected to help the team grow and improve throughout the season. The main focus this year is simple: compete. Track and field is all about giving your best effort every time you step on the track or into the field. When each athlete competes with confidence and trains with purpose, the whole team benefits. The goal is to push past nerves, trust the training, and show up ready to compete. If the team buys into that mindset, there’s no doubt multiple athletes will be competing at sectionals and state by the end of the season. With talent, depth, and a competitive attitude, this track and field season is shaping up to be an exciting one.
