Rep. Doreen Carter Hosts 10th Annual Female Entrepreneurship Day at the Georgia State Capitol

State Representative Doreen Carter (D-Lithonia) recently hosted the 10^th Annual Female Entrepreneurship Day at the Georgia State Capitol, celebrating women in business. The event, powered by Media Girls Network and Girl Boss Ink, drew an audience of more than 100 attendees, including entrepreneurs, community leaders and public officials.

“As a legislator, businesswoman and advocate for economic equity, I believe it is critical that we continue to elevate women who are building businesses, creating jobs and strengthening our communities,” said Rep. Carter. “Female entrepreneurs face unique barriers—from access to capital to representation—and events like this shine a light on their resilience and innovation. When women in business win, Georgia wins.”

This year’s celebration honored a group of women in leadership roles across industries, such as media, sports, business and philanthropy. Honorees of the event included Sommer Nicole, Ty Young, Portia Bruner (Outstanding GA Citizen), Destiny Webster, Carter the Body, Te’a Cooper, Karyn Greer (Outstanding GA Citizen), Shari Nycole, Ladonna Thomas, Auyana Reynolds, Tamisha Harris, Tamra Simmons, Amber Reign-Smith, Brittany Thompson, Jaylin Boldin, LaToya Young, Gwenetta Wright (Outstanding GA Citizen), Avian Watson, Dr. Shakenya Oliver-Branch (Outstanding GA Citizen), Terri J. Vaughn (Outstanding GA Citizen), Teneshia Murray (Outstanding GA Citizen), Kimberly Evans, April Love and Karetova.

In her remarks, Rep. Carter underscored the significance of recognizing and supporting women entrepreneurs in Georgia’s economic ecosystem. The annual gathering aimed to not only highlight the accomplishments of individual honorees but also encourage collaboration among women leaders and policymakers to expand opportunities for women-owned enterprises throughout the state.

Rep. Carter, who serves on the House Small Business Development Committee, seeks to champion initiatives that empower women and minority entrepreneurs. Her goal is to help ensure that women’s voices are represented in economic development and legislative conversations across Georgia.

Rep. Carter is the vice chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and an advocate for financial literacy and economic empowerment. Rep. Carter is also the founder of the Wealth & Wisdom Resource Group and the creator of the One Eleven Experience—a faith-based financial education initiative.
