Chivalry, Romance, and a Rollicking Good Time Is Expected At The Summerville Renaissance Festival

Royalty, fairies, pirates, and more will be found in J.R. “Dick” Dowdy Park during the annual Summerville Mini Renaissance Festival, scheduled for October 11. Festivities will kick off at 11:00 a.m. with an official welcome from “Queen Vashti, the King and the Royal Court of Performers. Merriment will continue throughout the day through 5:00 p.m. This free community event will be held rain or shine.

The pageantry, artisans, and music of the traditional State Renaissance Festival will not be lacking at this event. Renaissance Performers from Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabamawill be on hand to delight festival goers with a magical experience at different stage areas. Event goers and spectators are encouraged to wear costumes to add more fun and excitement to the experience. The Renaissance Period would be 1300-1600. All ages will be delighted and amazed throughout the day, while enjoying live entertainment, shopping, art, games, and a feast fit for a king.

Traditional favorite Renaissance acts and exciting new acts including belly dancing, Medieval and Renaissance music, archery, fire fan dancing and more are set to entertain for a day of frolic and fun. Tipping the actors is highly encouraged. Special private interactive children’s experience activities will also be offered. These ticketed activities include Tea and Fun time with Fairy Grandmother at 12:30 p.m. and a Knighting Ceremony with the King at 12 noon. Tickets may be purchased for $10 on site at the Summerville Main Street Information Booth. Spaces are limited to 15 participants for each Private Meet N Greet. Additional children’s games and activities, such as stick horse racing and facepainting will be available within the Dowdy Park area. There will be an arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Engine Passenger Train and working of the Summerville Turntable around 1:00 p.m.

New this year, there will be two Quests designed to enhance the immersive experience of the festival. Renaissance Faire quests are interactive scavenger hunt-like games where participants solve riddles, interact with costumed characters, complete tasks, and solve puzzles to uncover a story or achieve a goal, often receiving tangible rewards for their efforts. Quest #1 – “Receive A Blessing from The King & Queen” will begin at the opening of the festival and be ongoing throughout the day. Quest #2 – “The Stolen Crown Jewels” will begin at 12noon at the Kids Kingdom Bridge Stage and conclude at 2:30 p.m.

Traditional Renaissance foods will be plentiful, highlighting turkey legs and meat on a stick, as well as other tasty foods to tempt the taste buds of those attending. A multitude of artisans and crafters will be selling unique, handcrafted items and offering services such as axe throwing, on site massages, photo booths, interactive foam sword fighting, face painting and more. Endless photo opportunities and fun for all ages and interests will also fill the day. To close out the festival, a traditional end of the day “Pub Sing” with fun and frolic from all entertainers will be held from 4:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
