Chattooga County Schools Announce New Principals for Menlo and Leroy Massey

Chattooga County Schools shared the following information with the media regarding the appointment of two leaders who will be joining the administrative
team as principals for the upcoming school year.

 

Welcoming Two New Principals to Our Tribe
We are excited to share leadership updates within our Tribe! As we continue to prioritize
academic excellence, student well-being, and community engagement, we are thrilled to
announce the appointment of two exceptional leaders who will be joining our administrative
team as principals for the upcoming school year.
Dr. Richard Rutledge, Principal of Menlo School

Dr. Richard Rutledge brings 30 years of educational leadership experience and a deep
commitment to student-centered learning. Prior to joining Menlo School, he most recently served
as a math teacher at Summerville Middle and Chattooga High Schools. His leadership journey
began in Alabama, where he played a key role in improving academic performance and
strengthening school culture.
A passionate advocate for inclusive education, Dr. Rutledge is known for his collaborative
leadership style, dedication to staff development, and strong connections with students and
families.
“I am excited about the opportunity to become a part of the team at Menlo School. It is my goal
to build on the rich tradition of community support and high expectations for our students. We
want our students to be equipped with the character, skills, and knowledge to be the leaders for
their generation. I am expecting remarkable things for our students, teachers, and parents.
Together we can achieve greatness for our students, school and community.”

Dr. Alissa Hanrahan, Principal of Leroy Massey Elementary School

With a strong record of innovation and student advocacy, Dr. Alissa Hanrahan joins Leroy
Massey Elementary after serving as the GaTAPP Specialist at First District RESA. Her extensive
career also includes serving as Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Georgia
Department of Education Partnership Specialist in the Office of Rural Education and Innovation,
as well as a School Improvement Director, Assistant Principal and middle school teacher.
With over 25 years in education—including roles both as a teacher and leader at the school,
district and state level, Dr. Hanrahan brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to
supporting educators and empowering students.

full of growth, joy, and success. Together, we will live out our mission—Expect Excellence.
