Chattooga County officials have announced proactive measures to address a weather event that is expected to impact Northwest Georgia in the early morning hours of Friday, January 10, 2025. In preparation, all Chattooga County offices will be closed on Friday, allowing resources to focus on ensuring public safety during the storm.
The county is collaborating closely with Atrium Health, the Emergency Management Agency, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), local public works departments, and surrounding municipalities. Additionally, private contractors with specialized equipment are on standby to assist with weather-related cleanup efforts.
Road Preparations Underway
County crews will begin pretreating roads at lunchtime on Thursday, January 9. GDOT crews will start pretreating state roads at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Equipment has been strategically staged across various sections of the county to ensure a swift response to service requests.
Enhanced Resources from Atrium Health
Atrium Health is deploying additional resources to support the community and handle potential medical emergencies resulting from the weather conditions.
Shelter-in-Place Advisory
The National Weather Service has advised sheltering in place and limiting travel to essential purposes as the inclement weather arrives. Public works crews will remain active throughout the storm, working diligently to address hazards and maintain safety.
Reporting and Updates
Residents are urged to report fallen trees or road obstructions by calling 706-857-3400. Public works teams will coordinate with 911 to clear obstructions as quickly as possible.
Sole Commissioner Andy Allen encourages all residents to exercise caution, stay safe, and remain mindful of crews working in the area during this weather event.
