The Georgia Coastal Management Program (GCMP) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Coastal Resources Division (CRD) announced the availability of grant funding for projects that align with the program’s objectives.
Since its inception in 1998, the GCMP has provided federal financial assistance to eligible applicants to support its mission of balancing economic development with the conservation of Georgia’s coastal resources. These resources include natural, environmental, historical, archaeological, and recreational assets, benefiting current and future generations of Georgians.
Eligible applicants include state governments (with the exception of DNR), qualified local governments, regional commissions, and state colleges, universities, and research institutions. All proposed projects must be located within one of the 11 designated coastal counties of Georgia: Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Charlton, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Wayne. Projects that are regional in scope or involve partnerships across multiple counties must also be located within these eligible areas.
The funding for this year’s Coastal Incentive Grant (CIG) will support projects within five key themes:
- Oceans and Wetlands
- Public Access and Land Conservation
- Sustainable Communities
- Disaster Resiliency and Coastal Hazards
- Nature-Based Solutions
CIGs are reimbursement grants with a 12-month contract period, requiring all deliverables to be completed between Oct. 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026. The maximum award available is $80,000, with a 1:1 non-federal match required.
Pre-applications and all supporting documentation must be submitted electronically via CRD’s Submission Portal by 4:30 p.m., Friday, Dec., 6, 2024.
In support of applicants, three virtual workshops will be held on Oct. 8, 9, and 10, 2024. For additional information, to register for a workshop, or to access the Submission Portal, please visit CRD’s Coastal Incentive Grant Application webpage (Available Sept. 18, 2024).
