The Town of Trion will hold a Special Called Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, starting at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Town Hall Conference Room.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss real estate and the potential relocation of an industry to the industrial park.
The industry interested in setting up in the Trion Industrial Park is a renewable energy company that will produce renewable natural gas (RNG) and fertilizer using poultry manure. According to Mayor Lanny Thomas, if this happens, it will be a significant milestone for Trion as it would be the first of its kind in the United States.
Although there are RNG plants in the US that use cow manure and are located near dairy farms, this would be the first plant of its kind to use poultry manure.
Mayor Thomas addressed a common concern by stating that no offensive smell would come from the plant.
He also invited the public to attend the meeting to address any other questions or concerns.
“I realize one of the first concerns our citizens will have is, “Will there be an offensive smell that will come from the manure in the plant?” The answer is no,” Thomas said.
“There might be other questions or concerns that the public would like to have answered. I encourage anyone to please attend the called meeting this evening at Trion Town Hall at 6:00,” he added.
