The City of Summerville is seeking to hire a qualified City Manager.

The City of Summerville is seeking to hire a qualified City Manager. The City of Summerville, population
4,500, is the county seat of Chattooga County, which is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians in
Northwest Georgia.
The City Council appoints a City Manager who serves as the Administrative Head of the Municipal
Government. The City Manager will report to the Mayor and five City Council Members, who are elected
to staggered four-year terms.
The City Manager’s office provides centralized direction and leadership for the effective administration
and operations of all municipal services for the city as directed by the Mayor and Council and serves as
the focal point for the management of the city service departments.
City services include fire protection, police/public safety, recreation, water and sewer treatment and
distribution, natural gas, main-street programming, street, and sidewalk maintenance, garbage and inert
material collection, and administrative services.
Responsibilities include: preparing the annual budget, providing leadership and direction in the
development of short and long-range plans, advising the Mayor and Council of financial conditions and
current and future needs of the city, and monitoring and ensuring compliance with state and federal
regulations. Government accounting and financial experience is a major component of a successful
applicant.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of government administration
principles, comprehensive knowledge of the function of and interrelationship of all city departments.
Possess skills in the presentation of ideas, both oral and written. Ability to prepare, analyze, and
interpret data reports. Knowledge of city codes, ordinances, resolutions, policies, and guidelines
regarding city organization and operations. Ability to work with Mayor, Council, and the public.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s Degree (preferred) in
Public or Business Administration or a related field and progressively responsible experience in
city/county government finance, management, planning, procurement, or equivalent experience.
Salary: Negotiable, dependent upon experience and qualifications
