Summerville Police’s Tucker Retires After 36 Years of Service

Summerville Police’s Harold Tucker concluded his illustrious career today, marking the end of thirty-six years of dedicated service to the City.

Tucker joined the Summerville Police Department in 1988, beginning his career as a dispatcher. He then transitioned to the Uniformed Patrol Division, where he served as a patrol officer. Over the years, Tucker climbed the ranks, promoted to Sergeant, then Lieutenant, and eventually became Captain and Chief. His exemplary service and leadership led to his final role as Public Safety Director.

Reflecting on his last day, Tucker shared with AllOnGeorgia the mixed emotions he experienced: “Today, my last day as Public Safety Director, has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster. Walking into the Police Department for the last time after over 36 years really hit me today.”

Tucker expressed deep gratitude for the support and appreciation he has received throughout his career: “I am deeply grateful to all those who have expressed their thanks and appreciation for my career and the way I handled my job. I’ve made many friends along the way and am very blessed to have served the citizens.”

As he steps into retirement, Tucker looks forward to spending more time with his loved ones. “Now, it’s time to move on and enjoy my retirement and family. Thanks to everyone, especially my wife Kim, my son and daughter-in-law, Trey and Lauren, and my granddaughter Addie.”
